Along the A18 motorway near Doetinchem, the new Slingeland hospital is being built. Shrubs and landscape elements form the backbone of the master plan. The three buildings will be placed with respect for the landscape. This creates an organic tripartite division of the site and a composition reminiscent of the buildings on the original farmyard. The existing farmhouse will be carefully integrated into the landscape design. As space, views and greenery promote patients’ recovery, the higher floors are therefore fully oriented towards the landscape. From their beds, patients have views of the beautiful surroundings, the river and the clouds. In short, a great hospital that will serve as a ‘healing environment’.
